Use Lean Proteins

  • Drain and rinse canned foods.
  • Use only 1/2 of flavor packets in packaged food, like ramen.
  • Use herbs for flavoring instead of salt.
  • Steam, roast or broil foods.
  • Use a non-stick pan and non-stick spray rather than using solid fats, like butter.
  • Make at least 1/2 of your grains whole grains.
  • Aim to eat 4-5 cups of fruits and vegetables every day.
  • Fish and shellfish, beans, peas, lentils, eggs and low-fat cottage cheese are some examples of protein foods that can be used in place of poultry and meat.
